Conflux 8 short story competition

It’s less than 100 days now to Conflux 8, the annual Canberra spec fic convention which this year is being held over the weekend of 29th-30th September, with pre-con workshops on Friday 28th.

I’ll be guest editor at the con, and I’m beavering away on my speech right now, and Kerri Arthur,  New York Times bestselling urban fantasy and paranormal romance writer, will be author guest of honour.

Entries for the Conflux Short Story Competition close on June 29th, so you’d better get your nuclear-powered rocket skates on if you want to enter. You must be a full or supporting member of Conflux 8.
All entries will be judged by multi-award winning author Jack Dann, Fablecroft Publishing editor Tehani Wessely, and Edwina Harvey, author, editor and ‘ad girl’ for Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine. Winners may be published in the convention magazine at the discretion of the Conflux Committee.

Each story must:
  •  reflect the Conflux 8 convention theme of ‘the apocalypse’ in honour of Nevil Shute’s very Australian end-of-the-world novel On the Beach
  •  be no longer than 2000 words, and
  • contain a speculative element.
Stories must be unpublished and there are no simultaneous entries permitted. Writers can enter more than one story, but only one story per writer can win a prize.

Speaking of which, the prizes are $200 for the first prize, $100 for the second and $50 for the third.
Stories must follow standard formatting ie 12pt Times New Roman, double spaced, one inch margins al round. Each story will be blind-read so please ensure your name is not present on the story, in either the body or the header. Stories can be submitted via email as an RTF attachment no later than midnight June 29th, 2012 to Further details are on the Conflux 8 website.

Good luck.
